Wheelie Big Challenge in Room 15!
29th Nov 2024
The Wheelie Big Challenge encourages pupils to tackle the issues of plastic, paper, and food waste at school and at home by reducing, recycling, and composting.
This was our chance to examine how well the recycling and food waste bins are working and to see if there is room for improvement.
This was our chance to examine how well the recycling and food waste bins are working and to see if there is room for improvement.
The Wheelie Big Challenge started with a workshop highlighting the importance of the 5 Rs – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle. The workshop highlighted the importance of waste reduction and the children put on their gloves to complete a guided waste audit of our bins. We weighed the rubbish after ensuring all was sorted into the correct piles.
The Wheelie Big School Audit allowes us to take a closer look at what happens to waste in school and take practical action to improve things.
After the workshop, we are now aiming to examine the contents of two more bins in the school before the Christmas break as part of our audit.
A big thank you to Bronagh from Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful for the excellent and informative workshop. Also thank you to Miss Lockington for giving us the opportunity and for providing us with disposable gloves!
