Super September in Room 1
Room 1 have had a great first month back in school and we have been very busy.
We have been learning all about colour in World Around Us. We learned all about tones, tints, and shades in Art. We decorated our numbers using coloured cereal, and even got to eat some as we decorated. We learned about tones, tints, and shades and how we create these by mixing black and white paint with other colours. Then we learned all about the colour wheel and how mixing the three primary colours creates more and more colours.
We completed lots of experiments in science looking at colour, including chromatography. We drew spots on kitchen roll and dipped it in water. The ink spread up the kitchen roll and separated into different colours. We experimented with water and food colouring to see how plants drinks, we used celery and white flowers. When we added warm water to a plate with sugar coated sweets, we discovered that the water dissolved the sugar and changed the colour of the water. The result was very pretty.
In numeracy, we looked at our tens and ones and learned even more numbers. We are very good and counting forwards and backwards now 😊 We can compare the sizes of groups and use the symbols for more than, less than and equal to.
In literacy we all started to learn new spellings and even started our ‘Show what you know’ test on a Friday.
We started to use our independent workstations to allow us to complete our learning without support. We really enjoy using our personalised symbols for our timetable.
To celebrate International Day of Languages we made our own pizzas. We enjoyed adding the tomato sauce, grated cheese, and toppings to our pizzas. They were delicious.
The Grange Park Sensory Walk was lots of fun. There are pictures on the website from the walk.
We hope you enjoy looking through the photographs of our learning 😊
