January in Room 1
We hope everybody had a lovely, relaxing break with family and friends.
We have been learning about different celebrations this month. Each week we learned about a special day of celebration.
We learned about Lohri and made our own replica kites using lots of different designs. Lohri is a popular Punjabi folk festival that is celebrated at the start of the harvest season in north India.
Sikhs and Hindus celebrate the passing of the winter solstice and the end of the long, dark winter season and look forward to the longer, lighter days ahead.
We learned all about Martin Luther King and the impact he made on the modern world. Hearing his life story was very interesting and it helped us to fully understand the importance of never judging anybody because of their appearance.
Tu B’Shevat is the Jewish Festival of trees. We learned all about how the festival is celebrated and the significance of the traditions.
We have also been very busy working on our numeracy and literacy. We have been using Numicon number shapes and ten frames to help us with addition and subtraction within 20.
