Year 4 Class Update: January & February Highlights

It's been a busy and exciting start to the year in Year 4! Here’s a look at some of the fantastic activities and learning we've been up to over the past two months.

Numeracy: In Numeracy, we’ve been focusing on developing and extending our knowledge of multiplication facts, and applying them to written calculations. The children have worked hard on counting and making amounts of money, as well as practising how to give change. We’ve also tackled various problem-solving challenges involving money, which has really helped sharpen our skills!

Literacy: In Literacy, we’ve been exploring verbs and learning about the different types—past, present, and future tenses. The class has enjoyed recognising and using verbs in sentences, making our writing more exciting and varied. We've also delved into writing our own diary entries, discovering the key features of a diary and creating our personal accounts of events.

World Around Us: Our new topic, World War 2, has sparked lots of interest! The children have been actively involved in our lessons and even had the opportunity to join a webinar with the Ulster Museum in Belfast. This gave us a deeper insight into life in Northern Ireland during World War 2. We’ve had great fun with our hands-on activities too, such as making spitfires, learning about flags, building Anderson shelters, and packing an evacuee suitcase. It’s been a truly immersive way to bring history to life.

Special Visitors: We were also lucky to have some wonderful visitors to our classroom! Deborah from Thrive Academy came in to talk to us about using electronic devices safely. We also enjoyed a session with Love for Life, who helped us learn all about how to stay healthy and be a good friend. These sessions were both informative and fun!

It’s been a busy two months in Year 4, filled with lots of learning, exploring, and creating. We're looking forward to what the next term brings!

Stay tuned for more updates soon!
