'Spooktacular Fun' in Year 1

16th Oct 2020

This week, Year 1 have been very busy discussing what happens during Autumn, particularly Halloween. The children have enjoyed reading lots of stories and talking about them after. We have also incorporated them into Outdoor Play. We were making the 'big skeleton', 'little skeleton' and 'skeleton dog' with our 'Octo Blocks' and writing our name in soapy foam. We were using our imaginations a lot this week!

This week we have been:

  • Learning about the number 4
  • Exploring Instructional Writing ('scary pumpkin soup' and 'halloween buns')
  • Recapping all our 2D shapes
  • Introduced to the sound 'p' (Unit 2)
  • Making lots of patterns in class and when lining up
  • Naming some bones in our body and drawing our skeleton
  • Making sentences with our key words
  • Sorting in a Carroll Diagram

Today has been absolutely 'spooktacular'! We started it off making 'scary monster buns' and decorating them in class. Then we had a very special surprise from Mr Armstrong. He kindly donated 'yollies' to each class in the whole school on behalf of Kerry Food, Coleraine - thank-you very much! After break, we had our very own bubble party in Year 1. All the children loved bopping around and showing off their best dance moves!

We hope you all have a lovely two week holiday and a very well earned rest (parents and children!). We will miss you and  can't wait to hear your news when we return on Monday 2nd November. Don't forget to tune into the school website next Thursday (22nd October) for our virtual harvest assembly. We think you will enjoy it!
