Folk Park Fun with P2!
What a fabulous day P2 had at The Ulster American Folk Park!
It all kicked off with the excitement of having a ride on a bus! When we arrived at the Folk Park we enjoyed our snack before heading off to explore the ‘Old World’. We stopped off at the the One Roomed Cottage, the Forge, the Weaver’s Cottage and the Campbell house to name but a few. We met the blacksmith and Mrs Mellon who told us lots of interesting facts about life in Ulster long ago.
No visit to the Folk Park would be complete without attending Castletown School. The school room was very different to our classroom. Can you remember what some of the differences were? Thankfully no one blotted their copy book or got the cane so we headed back to base to enjoy our packed lunch!
After refuelling we were ready to make the big journey to the new world- America! We decided 8 weeks on the ship wouldn’t have been much fun so we were glad to get off and our first stop was the General Store. Can you remember some of the things you could buy there that you couldn’t buy in Ireland?
We saw a field planted with pumpkins and corn and went into a log cabin that the early settlers would have built. After 10 years they might have moved to a bigger house and that’s where we found out all about making candles.
Our trip back in time just flew and all too soon it was time to head back to school. We had a brilliant day- we were so well behaved, we learnt so much, asked amazing questions to the people we met and we have made some great memories as P2 draws to a close.
