Year 1 plant crocus bulbs for pollinators
This week, the boys and girls in Year 1 were hard at work planting crocus bulbs at Hill at the High. Reece and Emma from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council brought along the crocus bulbs and gardening equipment and set Year 1 the task of planting 300 crocus bulbs in just one morning!
Reece explained that the crocus flowers will provide nectar and pollen for two very important pollinators. One of the pollinators wakes up in spring and makes a buzzing sound. We can see the other pollinators in the summer and they often have brightly coloured wings. (If you’re not sure, ask us and we’ll tell you what they are.)
We also started our new topic ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ and have been learning about different things that we can see during the nighttime.
