Autumn Leaves Investigation
Some leaves were carefully selected for an art activity in Room 5 but unfortunately by the time they had reached the classroom they had dried out and shrivelled up.
Room 5 pupils put their thinking caps on and came up with a solution to restore the leaves to their former autumnal glory- a good soak in water. To add a bit more of an investigative slant to proceedings we placed half the leaves in cold water and the other half in warm water for the same length of time.
Would it work? Could we restore the leaves? We discovered that the leaves uncurled more quickly in the warmer water and this time to stop them curling as they dried we placed them between sheets of newspaper and placed heavy boxes on top to keep them flat. We then recreated some of the leaves using oil pastels.
