'A Trip to Somewhere Exciting'

25th May 2022

On Tuesday, Year 7 went to the Strule Arts Centre for a showcase event for the Creative Initiative for Primary Schools, funded through Strule Campus. This year’s project was themed in response to the pandemic, ‘Sharing Stories, Sharing Spaces’.

Over the past few months we have engaged in an exciting programme of activities that has included trips to Gortin Glen, visits from authors, illustrators and other professionals. Children from Omagh County PS have worked together with other schools to write a nature-inspired collaborative story and to produce their own illustrations, all linking to Declan Carville’s book, ‘The Magic Harp’.

During the showcase on Tuesday, all six schools assembled together to get a first glimpse of the new story that they have developed with Declan titled 'Fergal's Second Wish: A Trip to Somewhere Exciting'. We saw the story come to life with a professionally produced onscreen animation from the illustrator Melvin Caroll. We also saw a fantastic show reel of the entire project and got to look at Melvin's sketch book and original drawings from 'The Magic Harp'!

Children from the six schools joined together on stage along with their teachers and all the staff from the AmmA Centre as well as Declan Carville himself.

Everyone also got their very own copy of the new book Declan has written using all of the children's fantastic ideas! It is a beautiful story and a wonderful keepsake for the children to remember this special project.

Omagh County Primary School would like to thank everyone involved in the project for all your organisation, help and brilliant opportunities. The children had an excellent experience!
